Laura's Life in Art

        I developed a love of art and art history at an early age from my mother, a college professor who taught humanities.  Although I went on to become a research scientist after becoming armed with a PhD in biochemistry, my love for art never left.  In 2003, at mid-life crisis age 40, I picked up a paint brush in an attempt to make a birthday present for my hard-to-find-a-gift-for husband.  Fast forward six years, add a couple years of lessons from East Texas artists Nancy Berkhouse and Penny Sanders, and the fruits of my labor can be seen on this web site.  Something I'm delightedly appreciative of:  my paintings receive much notice, winning numerous awards in art competition and compliments.  I've also be fortunate enough to do commissioned paintings.  I'm also very blessed to have a wonderfully supportive husband, the best gift a girl can get in life.
     I live on a small farm in East Texas with my veterinarian husband, our four children, numerous pets, and lots of paint tubes, canvases, and brushes.
